Off-season Shopping

Getting the Best Bang for Your Buck in the Summer

With the rising cost of clothing and the importance of saving money, picking up new gear becomes a tightrope walk. Go too cheap and you’ll need to replace your purchase in a couple months, spending more money in the long run. Spend too much and you can knock your budget off track. That’s why it’s important to consider off-season shopping during the summer months when it comes to buying winter clothing. Off-season shopping has a lot of advantages, and it can save you money too.

Why?

It’s no secret that winter can be an expensive time for clothing. You’re likely to need to buy thicker materials, more layers, and of course, the latest trends. By shopping during the off-season, we can get a head start and stock up on basic pieces like coats, jackets, and knitwear early. This lets you take advantage of any seasonal sales and enjoy discounts that may be offered during the summer months.

When you shop for winter clothing during the off-season, you can find items for up to 70% off their original price. Some of the savings can be quite impressive – people saved up to 40% on coats or 50% on slacks, and outfits averaged 20% cheaper. This includes department stores like Nordstrom and Macy’s as well as discount stores like Khols, Marshall’s, and Burlington Coat Factory.

But I need it now!

For those that are more impulse shoppers, this is a tough pill to swallow. Waiting to buy something that you just saw someone rocking expertly can be downright painful. Understanding WHY you feel that way can help curb that desire. You know us; we’re nothing if not solution-oriented here.

Unfortunately, for those who are fashionistas, this might not be the move for you. These off-season sales are clearance sales, so you’ll be a season behind on the latest fashion. However, there may be a workaround for that. The secret? Keep an eye on the runways. You may be able to predict the next trends.

Bonus round! Moral bonus to off-season shopping

Doing your shopping during the off-season not only saves you money, but can also help the environment. When clothing is purchased before it goes out of season, it means that fewer items will end up in landfills. Purchasing winter wear during the summer also limits the amount of energy required to transport clothing. It’s estimated that it takes between 33% and 50% less energy to ship clothing from one warehouse to another during the off-season.

Off-season shopping has the potential to be a great way to save money without sacrificing quality. By keeping an eye out for sales and discounts during the summer months, you could save money and have a winter wardrobe that looks great without a hefty price tag. A budget saved and a closet full; job well done, folks.
